Spending your ski holidays in expensive ski resorts and ordering expensive drinks and meals can be disastrous if you are travelling on a tight budget.

With the present economic recession still pretty much unfixed, everybody should clearly know the costs of everything they spend for including ski holidays. Expenses like travel, accommodation, equipment rentals, lift passes, or even ski tutorials should be included in estimating the overall costs.

Quite a number of researches have been done with the goal of comparing the costs of different ski resorts around the world. These researches have been compiled and formed what is now known as a resort price index which gives a clear understanding of the price range of major ski resorts located across Europe as well as those located in North America. This price index can give you a general estimate of how much you could be spending in a specific resort compared to others when looking for a resort for your skiing holidays.

In a scale of 0 to 135, many prices of ski resorts have been researched on showing that the majority of ski resorts have prices that range within 70 to 125 and averaging at 100 in the price index.

Ski resorts located in Switzerland, France, and Canada have average scores topping 100 with St. Moritz being the most expensive with 135 as the price index.

Austrian, Andorran, and Italian ski resorts mostly have a price index of below 100 while those ski resorts located in the United States vary without any general similarities in price.

Bansko, a ski resort located in Bulgaria is the cheapest, costing only a third of the cost when spending the night in St. Moritz. However, Bansko only has 14 lifts which is almost nothing when compared to the 54 lifts in St. Moritz. However, it still is great if you are on a tight budget for your ski holidays.

In general, if you wish to spend your ski holiday in Austria or Italy, you will be spending far less than you would when you spend your ski holiday in France. As stated above, many Austrian and Italian ski resorts are affordable, having not surpassed the 100 mark on the price index. France, on the other hand, averages above 100.

These are just based on the prices of ski resorts for the last season and should only be used as a general observation if you wish to choose which could be the cheap destination for your ski holidays.
